Title
What does the statement “One nation under God” really stand for or signify to our society
today, Atheists are claiming it is “unconstitutional” for those words to be in the pledge? Then on
the other side you have Christians claiming "this country was founded on Godly beliefs. Our
forefathers came over here aboard ships to escape England’s tyranny and oppression on Religion.
So which is it are these four words indeed unconstitutional and need be removed, or are they
protected under the first amendment and have the right to remain
Christians have been using the statement our founding forefathers fleeing England’s tyranny
over religion forever. It seems to be an all-time favorite, however, is it really supposed to prove
we are indeed a Christian nation. The real question is does “under God” in the of pledge
allegiance hold this nation together as a Christian nation. This nation’s actual start was as a
penal colony, Europe decided that they were going to use the wilderness over here to send all the
unwanted people and the criminals they did not want to deal with anymore here to live so that
they did not have to look at them. So in 1620 when the Pilgrim’s decided that they had enough of
England telling them who to worship where to worship, and when to worship they boarded the
Mayflower and set sail for what is now known as The United States of America. Soon after they
ventured over here to this land the Puritans decided that it would be a good idea to follow suit
and did the same thing. This in turn opened the doors to an endless stream of millions upon
millions of immigrants that have continued in the centuries since. (America’s True history of
religious tolerance, 2015)
