Abstract

With the changing business and economic trends, world has seen increased level of unemployment. Fighting the war against increased economic downfall is need of time. This war required investment and efforts from state, but state only can’t provide solution to this problem. Efforts and support of individuals is necessity at all levels. Individuals who find their own ways of employment and earning have contributed a lot in the development of economies. So self-employment or entrepreneurship is the way out states are looking for and it is the support from public for better and successful states. Entrepreneurship is not only function of attitude as part of personality, but it also requires conducive & supportive environment both socially and economically. Numerous researchers have given snapshot of an entrepreneur. One of the determinants that has continuously been ignored or has not received deserved attention is external factors and their influence on entrepreneurial career intentions. This research intends to discuss the specific issues that are being faced by Pakistani students in the shape of economic, social and structural factors and how these factors influence entrepreneurial intentions of university students. Role of personality trait (self-efficacy) is also judged, how it influences relationship of external factors and entrepreneurial intentions. Data was collected from 205 university students. Findings show that structural and social factors have an impact on entrepreneurial intentions of students, while economic factors have no influence on self-employment intentions of university students. Findings also show that self-efficacy don’t moderate relationship of external factors and entrepreneurial intentions.

World has seen drastic changes in businesses in recently. It has been observed that due to changes in world economies there are numerous problems that are mounting. Recent developments in world economic systems have also affected the employment level in countries (Alam, 2009). One of those problems is problem of unemployment. Due to recent financial crisis not only developing countries have suffered rather developed countries are also not an exemption to that. Overcoming the problem of unemployment and creating new earning opportunities have been a target for all concerned with the policy makers and implementers of these strategies.
