Question 1: Analyze the ethicality of the actions taken by the different parties (Employee & Supervisor) in this case.
Employee: Christopher Knox AKA “Fort”: Fort wanted to see if he could try something on Dale Landry who was a client of Will Meyers. Will wasn’t able to get Mr. Landry, CFO of Armadillo to sign a contract with Specialty Fleet Services and was frustrated so they had nothing to lose. Fort took ethical actions when he told him he worked for SFS and letting Mr. Landry know about their services and that they could help their company improve with their service. The unethical actions that Fort could be seen violating is not revealing the extent that he knew about Armadillo and that his friend Will has been trying to get them to sign a contract for a while now. Also it could be kind of stalkerish that Fort had them under surveillance and would come over to their house to give them a framed photo and to accidently run into them so often.
Sales Vice President: Jeremy Silva, I believe it was unethical when he sent that email to the entire sales team about Fort’s sales tactic and should be reprimanded. He knew that those actions could be seen in an unethical way and that there was some lying involved and sending that email out was like promoting and encouraging those actions to land future sales. If Mr. Landry saw that email or heard of it, SFS could be in a position to be sued by the Landry’s and that would be a road that they shouldn’t cross.
Question 2. What would you do if you were the CEO?
If I were the CEO, I wouldn’t think it was bad what Fort did but it shouldn’t be encouraged to repeat that process. Fort didn’t violate any of the company’s current ethics codes so we can’t punish him for something that we don’t have in the company’s code
