“Are you stupid? Do you think?” That’s how was spoken to at my last job. This man didn’t know how to treat his employees. He disrespected us, talking down at us constantly. Not because we were young, he didn’t discriminate against age, just because he had the power. This one particular person drove me to realize that we need better management in this world that understands. I decided to switch my major from automotive engineering to business management. It’s a big jump but I know it’s the right choice for me. We need more managers in this world who have struggled growing up and had real grueling jobs that led them to becoming something bigger.
In many of my jobs, management was never respectful. I felt like a solider in the army just moving along, one by one. I feel that a business that generates decent revenue should make their workers happier rather than feeling like slaves to their job. In my efforts to obtain the most amount of knowledge I possibly can on this particular subject, I hope to change the way management is given. I want to provide my employees with the respect they deserve. Making sure that what they need and want to do their job satisfactory is provided for them. Having your employees happy and enjoying their position in the company will show immensely. I feel that my admission to University of California Berkley Haas School of Business is mandatory. I’ve looked into many other schools and they don’t have everything I’m looking for. Hass’ MBA program is really geared towards what I want. I like the location of the school. I like the fact they only accept up to three-hundred students every year. I am very eager to learn and achieve higher goals. I know that I am defiantly going to be one of those three hundred-student. I have set many goals for myself that are reachable and some that are very high, but with effort comes achievement. I am very responsible, great at multitasking and have a tremendous amount of desire to succeed in anything I do.
I’ve had many jobs over the years; one I’ve particularly loved and always wanted to get back to. I’ve worked as a youth baseball coach, janitor at an elementary school, in retail, as a mechanic, and currently for a small business management company. At of all the jobs I’ve had, helping children was my favorite. Seeing them grow as individuals and becoming proud of themselves for what they’ve achieved. One of the many goals I have set for myself is opening up my own sports fitness facility. Open to the public but targeting it to the youth. This will help kids understand the meaning of responsibility. I say responsibility because when you have a desire to achieve a certain goal you’ll do anything to get there. I feel that if the younger generation sees that they are becoming more responsible through fitness and training that they can apply it to their everyday life. It builds mental strength, character, and helps kids stand up for themselves in school. Also, when you have a facility like this that is helpful and a staff that wants to help change lives, it becomes almost like a family. Nowadays some kids need that extra push, maybe not from their parents that tell them what to do every day but from an outside perspective. If you’re able to strive for something you really want and achieve it, you can do anything. I think that by doing this I’m not just helping myself achieve the goals I set out to accomplish, but to help other people accomplish theirs.
