Adoption
In our society, adoption is a very controversial topic. People who agree with adopting a child, say this is an experience that promises to bring great joy as it changes a couples or individual’s life forever. People that disagree think that adoption is a permanent “solution” to a temporary “problem”. A couple of problems are the overcrowding of orphanages, the expense of fertility treatment with no guarantees of pregnancy and finally many children around the world with no family or stable home. If you give me the chance to enlighten you on why adoption is such a beautiful thing, I am pretty sure you will not disagree. It is a sad, painful fact that while many children go home to parents that love and care for them, there are three times as many children who go home to an environment where they are mistreated, abused and neglected. The Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center has been providing a safe home for children who have been either abused or neglected for several years. But as social problems seem to spiral out of control, today there is simply no more space available at the institution. The Human Development Department is aware of the situation and is in process of trying to alleviate the problem by relocating some of the older children to other care facilities. Many institutions are trying to help with this situation. But society should play their part and give a home to a child in need even if it’s not their biological child.
