Directional Process:

• Directional process essays tell readers how to do something and clarify the steps in the procedure, take this essay for example, it tells the readers how to cook a crap and make it to become a delicacy.

Introductory Paragraph:

• This essay uses dramatic entrance as its introduction.

• It describes a scene that introduces the readers to the subject of the essay.

• In this essay, the readers follow the author back to the scene when he was eighteen and how they fished in a cowhand style.

Participial Phrases:

• To achieve more coherence in chronologically developed essays, they use many sequence markers in the essay.

• For example, we can see that in the paragraph nine, the author writes" First, instead of merely….", "Then, taking a large pinch…"

Adverbial Clauses of Time:

• The essay has many adverbial clauses of time, such as the sentence at the beginning of the essay that writes "When I was a lad of about eighteen,…..".

• We can see the author uses "By the time" at the opening of paragraph five, "after" in the paragraph six, and "when", "as", and so on, in order to clarify the time relationship between two actions.
