Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Autism affects so many people, it is important to understand this disease. In this speech I will inform you about autism including how it can be detected, what are some causes and what are the treatments.
There are five types of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Autistic Disorder (classical) it can be detected during the three years of life. The child might have communication problems also he will play alone, can have a delay speech development, and repeat the body movements. Unusual object attachment but at the same time they can be really smart with math, art, music, and can memorized very easy. Asperger’s disorder (Asperger syndrome) they are great with communication skills and languages but their difficulties are their behavior. They get obsessive with one object or topic that interests them the most. Even though they have high communications skills can have poor social skills. Pervasive development disorder known as (PDD-NOS) need professional help because of their behavior. It cannot be self-diagnosed. Impairment social interaction. Rett Disorder (Rett syndrome) the problems that they have are hand movement, slowed brain and head growth, with walking, seizures, intellectual disability. Loss muscle tone and difficulties to feed. Have problems with eye contact. Child disintegrative Disorder (CDD) delay and lack of spoken language. Loss of motor skills. Difficulty to start and to end the conservation.
These five types of Autism have three things in common. The social impairment is that they look at the mouth instead of the eye contact with the person. They distract more easier with sound that are around them. Imitate the person movements, gestures, and facial expressions. Communication difficulties which for normal toddlers can say one or two words while children with ASD don’t say no word they communicate sometimes with gestures or facial expressions. Sometimes the children can have good language skill but they have trouble to have some kind of communication. Children with ASD can withdraw anxious and depress because sometimes they can’t communicate with others normally. Repetitive and stereotyped behaviors they have unusual motions and behavior. They only focus on what they have interest and they get mad easily when someone moves the object or they change the routine.
How can it be detected? It can be diagnosed by the age of two years old by child IQ level, Functional skills and Adaptive behavior. The screening test can be helpful by age of eighteen months or younger. The pediatrics shows the children family pictures, videos, and baby album. Is the first test that the child has to diagnosed of he has ASD of many test that the child needs to take. The pediatrics will notice with screening test because of the child behavior. Comprehensive diagnostic evaluation there is a team of: Psychologist, Neurologist, Psychiatrist, Speech therapist and other professionals that can evaluate. There is also sleep problems like falling asleep or staying asleep, always have schedules for their bedtime and it would be less stress for the family. Also there is seizure which they have blackout, uncontrollable shaking and movements or lack of sleep or high fever. One in three children that have Fragile X Syndrome have been diagnosed with ASD and one in twenty-five children that has diagnosed with ASD have been diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome (mutation). It is a genetic disorder that’s inherited. Fragile X syndrome is known as maturation because it has an extra X. Noncancerous tumor that can grow in the brain or another. It occurs with one to four percent with ASD. Physical and mental health problems. Some parents with children that have ASD have seen problems with gastrointestinal like vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, acid reflux, and even bloating. Children need special treatment because they can’t eat a lot of food. The children have anxiety disorder, can be hyperactivity disorder or depression, higher risk in mental problems and need to have behavior therapy.
