"Bend it like Beckham" is a very famous British comedy and drama film which was directed by Gurinder Chadha and was produced by Gurinder Chadha and Deepak Nayare in 2002. The question in this essay is how the director of this film you have studied in class has used film techniques to inform about two different issues and inspire audiences? Well Chadha has used lots of different film techniques throughout the movie and she has also explained how the different cultures don't always agree on the same thing and that they think is the right thing to do. The main themes that will be discussed throughout this essay will be cultural stereotypes and they different families.
Throughout the movie of "bend it like Beckham" there is a great deal of rebellion which is displayed. Both daughters of Mr and Mrs Bhamra rebel against their parents in different ways to get things that they want. Rebellion is a refusal of obedience or order and not accepting normal standards of behaviour. The audience is educated about rebellion and the different ways it can be displays and also resolved. Jess rebels hugely against her family and her cultural heritage and she shows a lack of respect and desire to fill in the expected role of an Indian Sikh wife which is the role that Pinky strives to play throughout the movie. The expected role of an Indian Sikh wife is to get married and have children, cook and wear the correct Indian clothing which is expected to be worn. Instead Jess wears tracksuits and shorts and has a very little interest in learning or following anything to do with cultural heritage. Instead Jess doesn't desire the feminine roles of romance, domestic duties and fashion but yet she strives to play football and follow her dreams of taking playing it professionally. After jess' parents find out that Jess has been playing football again she still finds a way to keep playing by going behind her parents back and lying about where she is and
