Thesis:
It is essential for children to be in the care of one stay at home parent in order for them to have a positive and joyful childhood so that they would grow up into useful adults of their generation.
The generation that we live in is full of crime, violence, disturbance, and danger. Children are in need of their parents more than ever and if they don’t have someone to look after them at all times, there is a high possibility that they themselves will be involved with crime and violence. If they don’t have someone to look after them at all times such as a stay at home parent, than they will be corrupted and maybe lost forever. This essay will be proving the thesis by providing three of many examples of why it is essential for children to be in the care of at least one stay at home parent, rather than two income parents.
When children are in the care of a parent, children will be protected from the harshness of today’s society and will be in good care. Teen depression can lead to drug and alcohol abuse, self-loathing and self-mutilation, pregnancy, violence, and even suicide. But as a concerned parent, teacher, or friend, there are many ways to help (Smith, 2015). In the society that we live in, drugs and alcohol seem to be something very common among boys and girls from ages of 11 to 18. Getting access of drugs and alcohol have been easier than ever. Studies have proven that alcohol and drugs influence the brain of children and teens and makes them aggressive and depressed. Children and teens must absolutely not be involved with such actions. Children and teens need a parent who watches over them at all time. They need a parent who nurtures them, they need a parent that is strict when it comes to corruption, but sweet and caring when it comes to being a parent. Children and teens need at least one stay at home parent in order for them to be protected from depression and corruption that can be caused from drugs and alcohol (Edwards, 2011) Twenty first century is a time period where children and teens are most depressed. The media plays a huge role for the cause of their depression because the media sets such standards that no one can reach. The media teaches girls that being beautiful means to have a slim body and to wear luxuries brands of cloths and use expensive perfumes and makeups. The media teaches boys that they must have muscular body and they must drive expensive cars and have a specific personality and behavior. The media invites girls and boys to be sexually open. Even though most girls and boys are not ready. Both girls and boys attempt to reach the never ending standards the media sets for them and since they are not capable to reach it, they become depressed. Children and teens need a parent who explains to them the reality of life. Children and teens need to understand that the standards of media are pointless and fake. They need to understand that they were not created to follow the standards of media. Since two income parents are mostly busy with their work, they can’t always be there for children. They don’t have the time to constantly remind their children about what is good and what is wrong, what is fake and what realty is, and therefore, children are more likely to be influenced by the media. When children and teens have one stay at home parent, they are constantly reminded about reality and there is less percent chance for them to be depressed rather than having two income parents who are hardly there for their children. In order for children to be safe from the harshness of today’s society, they need at least one stay at home parent.
