As I pulled back my ice cold silky blue curtain, I was in excitement to see the glowing essence of the morning sun reflecting off the Alaskan white snow flurried mountain tops. I sat anxiously and watched as the beautiful morning sun began to slowly brighten up the dull crisp sky. I had been awake for close to an hour now, listening to the feather-like sounds of the cool outdoors going about its way. The clock read 6:12 A.M. I had never been an early-bird, except for this sensational morning every year. This wasn't just any ordinary day, we had something to look forward to. It was Christmas day! I began to smell it, the heavenly aroma of my grandmother's homemade Christmas breakfast casserole. I quickly jumped up and launched down the hallway as if I were being chased by a zombie, eager to see what was in store upon my arrival. Today was going to be a special day.
As the Christmas Blessing was said, we gathered at the table for breakfast casserole. I carefully spooned a portion slightly larger than average of the succulent, bittersweet, savory casserole onto my plate. My tastebuds began to explode producing my mouth to salivate, wanting to take that first bite of the steaming hot freshly baked breakfast sensation. There I go, forking a scoop full of pure amazement. As I transport it closer to my mouth, my senses kicked in,.the aroma made me weak, I was dying to taste it. "MMMMMMM" I took a bite, the flavor was exceptionally well. I could taste the crusted cheese melted into the battered breading, heartily plenished with bacon and sausage flavors. I experienced the taste of the sizzle in the savory mixture of breakfast essentials. The perfectly melted cheese wrapped evenly around the salted bacon fried to perfection baked into the battered bread , seasoned fully to taste all in one bite. My taste buds begged for it, I'm in love with this dish. After nothing more than minutes, my plate was cleared and I was scooping for seconds.
