Buildings are going up like rockets. New houses are becoming more available. Nowadays construction is the new competition for communities. But, what most people don’t know is that building up communities and other construction projects are actually harming the environment. When contemplating the relationship between the natural and built environments, it is not a matter of good vs. evil, but rather a matter of identifying which of every two options is less evil than the other. The very meaning of the words 'built' and 'natural' tell you straight up that they to do not belong together. For as long as man has been building and manipulating the planet for his own needs the natural environment has suffered. Without a doubt, the construction industry impacted on the environment in a number of ways, both directly and indirectly. The construction process not only consume a lot of energy, and create the most carbon monoxide emissions, they also create the most waste, use most non-energy related resources, take away the animal’s habitat and cause deforestation, and are responsible for the most pollution. Construction consumes a lot of energy. It takes months, or even years to finish a project, and all that time spent working on completing a job wastes a lot of energy. An example would be roadway construction. When we think of energy use in our roadways, we tend to think about burning gasoline in our cars. With growing concerns about environmental health as well as rising fuel prices, automobile manufacturers are looking at ways to make driving more energy efficient. But what about the energy it takes to build the road itself? What aspects of road construction have the biggest energy demand, and how does the total demand of construction stack up to roadway use?
