Record of the Event
The police report is really important in order to solve the case and whenever the accident happens the police officer has to write down the report and it must contain clear, complete, concise and accurate. There must be a plenty of information like what happened, the motive and any kind of evidence were gathered. According to Roufa (2016) he talks about the importance of police report and how it can help them solve cases and if there is a high profile case the media will look for the police report and if it’s not accurate or up to the point than it will be embarrassing for the department. I Believe writing down the record of the event really can help police solve the case and it’s very important to profession of policing.
Facts and Important things in a police report
The police officer only has the permission to write the facts about the crime scene. He/she cannot write what they feel about the crime scene. According to Mike Byrd it is important that the first officer on the crime scene properly protect the evidence. The entire investigation hinges on that first person being able to properly identify, isolate, and secure the scene. The police will regularly do a site examination by taking pictures and taking any articles they believe are associated with the wrong doing for confirmation. Nearly everybody who was at the scene will compose a report, including their own perceptions, the names and contact data of any potential witnesses, and any things that they took from the scene. I strongly believe it is important for a police to collect the right information because based of the information they will come to a decision and the right person will get punishment.
Honest
A police officer best skill is being honest so they can write a solid report. It is very important to have an honest police officer because they are the people who decide what is wrong and right. Police officers act with honesty and are open and truthful in their dealings with the public, so that confidence in the police deal is secured. According to www.nij.gov (2016) police officers do not expressively make any false, misleading statements or entries in any record or document kept or made in connection with any police activity. A police officer cannot take any gift while being on the duty, if the police officer accepts the gift it’s a dishonest to their department. A police officer treats every citizen equal and with honesty and gives their citizens’ rights that they deserve. It is important for a police officer to be honest because we depend on them to keep us safe.
