1. The wars on East of Eden affect the lives of the behavior of the characters and the mood of the story. The story of Cain and Abel relate to war because it shows how humans will always fight for what they believe is good and evil.

2. Cal and Aron both have the trait of capability. They have the capability to make everything in their surroundings better for them if they just put their minds to it. Cal decided to find who he truly is and not live in his mother’s shadow. As for Aron, he decided to run away from his inadequacy instead of facing it.

3. Adam hated his father because of all the things he was forcing him to do that he not want to do. He was forcing Adam to become a man by joining the army. As for Aron he felt his dad was putting too much pressure on him to get a proper education.

4. They both are so consume with the love they have for that person that they fail to see them for what they truly are and not for the perfect image they’ve created. Their infatuation suggests that the state of innocence and purity is very gullible.

5. In a way Aron’s obsession with goodness and purity is a form of sel-indulgence, Him trying to be good and only see things with a pure eye is him believing that how it has to be. For example, in every letter Aron wrote to Abra he made out to be a pure girl, but she wasn’t.

6. The nature of the despair that makes both Charles and Cal restless is the fear of rejection from their fathers. Charles and Cal were the sons that loved their fathers but they also were the strong ones, they could take care of themselves and did not need help from other people as opposed to Adam and Aron.

7. By presenting Adam with a gift of 15,000 dollars Cal is trying to buy his father’s affection and approval. Adam rejects his gift because he doesn’t want money, he wanted what Aron had, pride in the things he’s doing and gladness in his progress.
