Skip Day
It’s April 28th, the day I decide to throw a party during school hours. I told my friends about my idea and they were excited about skipping school. The next day, I received texts and Facebook messages from most of my classmates. The news of my skipping party was roaming around like ants at a picnic. I felt popular.
The party starts at ten, which give me enough time to get ready. I begin to straighten up the living room, prancing around to make sure all of the valuable items are put away. I am so anxious that my eyes dance back and forth at the clock.
And when the doorbell rings, I jump with excitement. Walking to the door and taking a deep breath to calm my nerves, I open the door with high hopes that it would be fellow skippers, but the excitement I had goes down the drain because it is just my two best friends Margie and Mileka. I roll my eyes at them as they came in.
An hour goes by and nobody else is here. I give up my pointless staring contest at the empty sidewalk outside my window. I hang my head down over my chest, placing my hand on my head in frustration. A few minutes later the doorbell rings and there is a line building outside my window. I dash to the door to welcome my guests. Now the party can begin.
I turn up the music, so loud that I can almost see the sound waves thumping on the sidewalk. The living room is crowded and fogging; it is hard to breathe. People blowing silver grey smoke from there mouths that spiral and dance. The aroma of dry woody herb smell of weed fills the air. I look at the party and everyone is dancing, drink, and having a good time. This party will be talked about for days.
Suddenly, the door bursts open and everyone runs to hide.
“Freeze,” an officer says.
Some of us run upstairs to find a hiding spot. I follow the crowd and run to my room in fear of getting caught. Mileka and I run straight to the closet. My eyes start to fill with tears, I can feel the lump in my throat, and my body starts to shake. All I wanted was to be popular, I guess now I am.
