Summary

The article “Feeding Academic Success: service learning promotes learning by doing” by Paul Bradley explains that doing community service can be doing service in the community but also to our classmate inside our own school. Delta College opens a food pantry to donate free food to their students and teachers. The college understand the struggle and stress that their students go through to learn and take care of their families all at the same time. The school does service-learning trips to see a “deeper understanding and application of course content”(7). They make students go on service-learning trips that relates to their major and what they are trying to become in their lives. The number of people and staff  improved at Delta College because of the value and the experience students learn on the trip. Community service helps student and the people in the community reach their goals

Doing community service for your peers can help them out in many ways. Delta opens a food pantry for their students to give the free food. Giving free food helps struggling students take care of their families. It helps them take off a big load of stress and let them focus more on their school work than feeding their homes. Owens Community College also have a food pantry. I didn't realize how much people go the food pantry to feed their loves ones. It shows how much Owens care for their own student body. Between classes, students sometimes go to the food pantry to receive food when their on a low budget.

Many community colleges sends students to do service-learning trips based on their majors. The students get to experience helping people on what want to do in their life. For example, a student in culinary arts would cook meals for homeless shelters. They get to connect to the people in their field. Some students may even discover if that is the major that fits for them. My major is criminal justice. I would love to do community service like join my neighborhood watch or help elementary kids cross the roads going to school in the morning.
