Nowadays, most of the Malaysian children have received many immunisation injections since they were born. But recently, there were news about five children have died from diphtheria because their parents refuse the injections due to fact that there are rumour about the immunisation might contain pig DNA which is forbidden in Islam. But, the Fatwa Council has declared that diphtheria immunisation is halal. Therefore, in my opinion, the immunisation injections should be compulsory for all children in Malaysia.
Firstly, immunisation injections are very safe and effective. It helps to protect children against certain diseases. Immunisation injections are only given to children after a long and careful review by doctors. Consequently, children have a smaller percentage to get the serious illness.
Besides, immunisation injections can save their parent’s time and money. A child with a vaccine-preventable disease can be kept out of school for long periods of time and this will waste their time to learn more. In contrast, getting immunisation injections against serious diseases is a good investment and usually covered by insurance. Hence, getting immunisation injections can avoid wasting time and money of their parents.
Some may claim that immunisation injections can be unpleasant or painful and has possible side effects. However, it is minimal compared to the pain, discomfort, and trauma of the diseases these immunisation injections prevent. Serious side effects following immunisation injections, such as severe allergic reaction, are very rare. Therefore, the disease-prevention benefits of getting immunisation injections are much greater than the possible side effects for almost all children.
In conclusion, the immunisation injections should be compulsory for all children in Malaysia because it is very safe and effective as well as can save time and money. Furthermore, immunisation injections are the best protection against serious diseases.
