Journeys are a pathway to opportunities but with them comes obstacles. Choices can determine the paths that we follow and it is our ability to make the right choices that wil enable us to overcome barriers. Thus leading to a greater sense of understanding and the self growth. This is evident in Steinbeck novel"of mice and men" and Samuel taylor Coleridge, poem "lime tree bower my prision" (aka lime tree)
Physical journeys can encourage strengthening bonds or meeting new characters. In the novel " Mice and Men" there are two best friends (George and Lennie) who venture fourth on a physical journey together to fulfil their dream of owning their own land. They are both nomadic. The contrast between their personalities is quite different. Lennie, he is manipulative but strong, easily to persuade and is obsessed with touching pretty things. Unlike George, he is the leader , he orders Lennie around, tries to control situations and has a dream of having his own farm. The dream farm is symbolic of Lennie and George's friendship. It is the thing that ties them together and keeps them working, even when times are hard. During the first few pages of the novel the persona describes the looks of the characters , he uses the repetition of the word "both" implies uniformity , they both look the same, they are heading in the same direction and they are both doing the same work thus establishing a connection. Money is one of the obstacles that stops them from fulfilling their dream. But Candy makes them a offer to contribute his life savings if they allow him to live at the farm too. In page 60 "i can wash the dishes, and feed the chicken and sell the egss". There is accumulation of activities , George is properly planning what they are going to do once they get they're own farm. George made the choice to accept the offer as he will be closer to his dream, With candy's money means that they may be able to fulfil the dream or owning the farm by the end of the month.
