In the play Macbeth the reader can tell that Macbeth is overran by Lady Macbeth at the beginning of the play. Lady Macbeth is filled with evil at even the thought of her husband becoming Thane of Cawdor. She has more ambition than Macbeth himself. In the two assertions for the play you can tell that Lady Macbeth is filled with extreme confidence. But on the other hand Macbeth is filled with great doubt.
Lady Macbeth is filled with great confidence. She is excited that Macbeth may become Thane of Cawdor. She doubted if Macbeth had what it takes for him to become king. She tells him that he is too full of the milk of human kindness to strike aggressively at the first opportunity he has to seize the crown. She belittles him by telling him to hurry home so she can persuade him and talk him out of whatever is keeping him from taking the crown. This not only shows that she is filled with great confidence that he will be Thane of Cawdor but also that Macbeth is filled with great doubt about what needs to be done to take the crown.
On the other hand Macbeth is filled with great doubt about wanting to take the crown. He doesn’t want to kill Duncan just for the crown. Macbeth says that he wouldn’t mind putting his soul and afterlife at risk but for crimes like these there are still punishments in this world. He also said that by committing violent crimes we only teach other people to commit violence, and the violence of our students will come back to plague us teachers. Macbeth says that he is suppose to be the person close the door on Duncan’s killer not try to kill him himself. He didn’t want to kill Duncan just for the crown; he didn’t want to get the crown that way. All these lines show that Macbeth was filled with great doubt.
