Malcolm vs. Martin
Two of the greatest civil rights speakers in the United States were Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Both had very different views on what they thought was the best way to get equal rights for blacks. Martin thought the best way was to do a non violent mass movement in which he used teachings from Ghandi. Malcolm’s way to get equal rights was you have to protect your rights by all means necessary. He thought the only way to solve violence was with violence. I think that Martin’s way is the best because it’s the right way to a good and permanent solution.
Martin didn’t want to use violence to solve the violence. No, he thought doing a non violent mass movement was the best way to get equal rights for blacks. One of the reasons for doing this was, if you don’t use violence and the other side uses violence no one can say you did something wrong. If the blacks would use violence, the whites would only be able to use it against them. Then they could say that the blacks are violent and don’t deserve the equal rights that they want just because of that.
Also when the blacks wouldn’t use violence the people would see who were really doing the wrong thing. Then the people would see the blacks were the ones who were suffering. Because people see where the blacks are going through they will stop being against them and start to switch sides.
Of course not only people who are watching the whites being so violent against the blacks are seeing how wrong it is. The people, for example the police, that are doing this to the blacks will start to see how wrong it is. If they see this they will stop doing it. Of course they won’t stop all at once, but at least some people stop and that makes other people stop too. And at the end this means almost everyone stops the violence against the black, and the blacks will get the equal rights they wanted without doing anything wrong.
