Scary Words:
Ghastly-causing great horror eg. The ghastly sinister shadow made my adrenaline pump extremely hard.
Gruesome- causing horror eg. Gruesome as it was, I had a strange sensation to laugh.
Dilapidated – in ruins due to extreme neglect eg. As I stood, gazing at the dilapidated house, I shivered, as though ice had replaced my spine.
Shivered – eg. I shivered, as though, ice had replaced my spine
Extreme cold- The cold air enveloped the entire body.(Deathly cold)
Dandelions – dandelions poked out from the cracking wall; as if it were healing its wounds.
Ghoulish – Resembling Ghoul which means evil eg. The moonlight cast a ghoulish glow on the house.
Vines – long plant eg. Vines formed a twisted maze upon the side of the house, reaching heir tentacles towards the roof.
Cobwebs - Cobwebs covered the corners of the doors, tiny black spiders threading towards their prey.
Howl – A howl echoed through the massive room.
Wail- A long desperate wail.
Feel – soft, as I rolled my fingers down I felt its arms and legs. Extremely reassuring. Further going up I was met with nothing, only stuffed cotton coming out.
Odour - a violent odor made it way to my nose.
Positive: fragrance, aroma, odour, perfume
Negative: Stench, stink,
Emanating- spreading out. The smell emanating from the shops makes me nose tingle.
For texture:
Abrasive – material used for cleaning
Coarse- rough or hard in texture
Flaky- can easily produce flakes, like pastry
Sheen – soft lustre on a surface, had a sheen like fine hardwood.
My skin tingles; the air is so cold

Boots next, numb fingers fumble with the laces.
Create contrast. ‘breathless, chilly air.’
ALWAYS accompany with a verb eg. The fresh aroma wrapped around me or the stench hit me straight on the face.
Natural beauty
Birds chirping – I could hear the morning birds chirp with all their heart and that triggered joy and excitement in my soul.
Toured – A breeze toured the jungle making the flowers and leaves tango with rhythm.
Trees- the lush evergreen trees stood so firm as if the roots were clinging for their very life.
Setting sun – temporal description. Eg. Light poured from the setting sun, illuminating everything in its reach.
Illuminating means light up.
Talk about breathing- I inhaled deeply, filling my lungs with fresh air, dampened from the previous night’s rain, and cleared my mind of worries(feelings).
Above my head, I heard the sound of birds warbling, pleasant to my ears like chime, and raised my gaze in time to see a pair of sparrows dancing through the air in the most carefree way.
Grove- A small wood.
As I walked further away into the welcoming grove, the sound of crunching leaves below my feet reached my ears, each as thin as hammered gold or bronze.
