Reflection Paper 1
During Junior year, Isenberg students need to take a junior writing course (SCH_MNGT 310) which focuses on Management Communications. The course was designed to teach us about essential skills in writing a good resume and cover letter, creating a clear and concise business report and proposal with standard format. We also learned about the importance of communication strategies during crisis in the business world with serveral case study from big brand name such as Sam Sung, Wells Fargo, Mc Donald’s and Chipotle. The junior writing course may relate to this business policy and stratergy course to some extend. Simmilar to 494BI course, SCH_MNGT 310 class also consists of students from different majors within Isenberg. Communication and strategic management both are important soft skills that BBA students need to learn beside thier knowledge of functional areas (hard skills) in order to support the organization as a whole. Moreoever, by cooperating both communication techniques and strategic thinking, students will be able to develop crucial skills when confronting complex business situations in the future.
Being a student majoring in finance, I would be able to apply some of the financial concepts learned from other class to the discussion. I have also gained insight and experienced in sales and customer services through summer internships across different industries such as insurance and hospitality. Beyond the classroom, my involvement in extracurricular activities have allowed me to build leadership and communication skills through interacting with peers. In my previous role as a President of the International Students Club at UMass, I led weekly meeting, planned events to help with the transition of new international students, and worked with other seven executive board members to fundraise for the 5-College International Festival, an event that educates more than 300 peers and residents within Amherst community about cultural diversity. Through those experience learned from classes, extra-curricular activities and internships, I have been able to improve communication, collaboration and management skills. Moreover, with the diverse background as an international student, I could be able to add some different perspectives based on the differences in cultural experience when it comes to the class discussion.
