According to NANCY MARIS in her article, the article was first published in 1987 in the New York Times she talks about MS people and how she deals with it herself. The article talks about how culture responds to people with disabilities and how they must be treated as normal people. I’m going to critic NANCY MAIRS’s work positively, especially about how she used her own experience while writing her essay; she discussed an important issue in many societies, she used narrative style to grab the attention of the reader.

Nancy Mairs depended on her experience when she wrote her work. As a woman with a disability, she knew how disable people feel and how the society treat them. Society and media treated the disability people in bad and ugly way and they thought that disability people are useless. From her experience she hasn’t found any disability people working in media or T.V.

The women that had an MS, she was terribly upset by the diagnosis and her plan was to plan a trip to Kenya. Also she didn’t accept the fact that she cannot go there according to the advice of the young and handsome doctor, but she got as far as a taxi to the airport, she was physically disable but she believed that she can do it. As long as she can do what any other women do in life like smearing her skin with lotion, she puts bleach in the washer so her family’s undies wont be dingy, she drives a car, talk on the telephone and almost everything.

Nancy ones asked a local advertiser why he didn’t include disables people in his spots. and he answered directly that “We don’t want to give people the idea that our product is just for the handicapped.” And Nancy said a very important thing which is “to depict disabled people in the ordinary activities of daily life is to admit that there is something ordinary about disability itself.
