NEEDS ANALYSIS

INTRODUCTION:

. Needs analysis is directed mainly at the goals and content of a course. It

examines what the learners know already and what they need to know.

Needs analysis makes sure that the course will contain relevant and useful

things to learn. Good needs analysis involves asking the right questions and

finding the answers in the most effective way. The learners’ needs can be categorized into three groups: Necessities, Wants, and lacks.

Fifteen needs of language learners are provided in the following.

THE LANGUAGE LEARNERS’NEEDS:

1. The learners need to communicate with people around the world

2. The learners should develop their fluency in all four skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading.

3. The learners should have acquired the necessary knowledge in order to enter the next level

4. The learners’ motivation should be considered

 5. The learners’ desires and wishes

6. The second language culture and attitudes

7. The learners need to learn English for academic education

8. Some of the learners   need to use the English because they want to travel to other   countries.

9. The accuracy of learners should be developed

10. The learners’ writing skill should be considered

11. The learners should be aware of the list of frequency words

12. The learners need to acquire the knowledge of English in order to get a good job

13. The learners should be able to use the language in different context

14. In order to work with new technologies, the learners need to learn the English

15. In this stage the learners should be able to speak, so they should have acquired the sound system of English in the previous stages.

The categorization of the needs:

  1. The necessities :
  1. The learners should develop their fluency in all four skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading. On the basis of the necessities definition: the needs which are necessary in the learners use of language, developing  fluency is necessary
  2. The learners’ motivation should be considered. During learning English, the learners’ motivation should be taken into account. Necessities are the present needs
  3. The second language culture and attitudes. Culture is an aspect of the language, so to acquire the language it is necessary to learn about the culture.
  4. The learners need to communicate with people around the world. These days communication is of import .all around the world, people should communicate with each other in order to do everything.
  5. The accuracy of learners should be developed.in order to communicate, people should be accurate enough.
  6. The learners’ writing skill should be considered. The learners should write on every given topic.
  7. . The learners need to acquire the knowledge of English in order to get a good job. Sometimes getting a job required being able to speak and write English
  8. The learners should be able to use the language in different context. Students should be able to perform at different situations.
  9. In order to work with new technologies, the learners need to learn English. learning English is necessary because these days using new technologies like computer, cellphones, etc. required knowing English
  1. Wants:
  1. The learners’ desires and wishes .the learners ‘wants are the needs which they wish to learn.
  2.    Some of the learners   need to use the English because they want to travel to other   countries. Traveling to other countries is one of the learners’ best wishes.
  3. The learners need to learn English for academic education. if the learners want to continue the academic education, they need to learn English

   

  1. Lacks:
  1. In this stage the learners should be able to speak, so they should have acquired the sound system of English in the previous stages. Lacks are the needs that should be achieved in the previous stages. Learning the sound system is the lack of speaking.
  2. The learners should be aware of the list of frequency words.in order to communicate, the learners should be aware of the list of frequency words. 
  3. The learners should have acquired the necessary knowledge in order to enter the next level. Will go to next level .so they should be ready to enter the next level. They must have acquired some knowledge.

INSTRUMENTS:

THE LANGUAGE LEARNERS’NEEDS:

1. The learners need to communicate with people around the world. THIS NEED CAN BE ANALYZED BY MEETING.

2. The learners should develop their fluency in all four skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading. This observation need can be measured by an observation instrument

3. The learners should have acquired the necessary knowledge in order to enter the next level. This can be studied by collecting learner language samples.

4. The learners’ motivation should be considered .this need is usually selected by a questionnaire
