Time management at workplace

Finding from research

Time is limited thus time management is the most important life skills for individuals. Ultius.com (2015) also indicated that “Time management is a critical aspect of any successful career”.

Time management training leads to increase working efficiency and higher quality working capability. Based on psychological theory and research, employees who attend time management training may help to increase performance at workplace (Alexander Häfner, 2010). Time management consists of learning how to effectively prioritize tasks, make lists, maintain realistic expectations, and stop procrastination.

A good time management also means accomplishing more with less effort. According to the report by Appointment-plus.com (2015), the benefit of perceived control of time is to help us to stay focus on task at hand. When we are practicing good time management, we tend to have enough time to operate with better decisions.

By managing time well, we tend to reduce stress from work. Nowadays, many people are suffering from time pressure at work and increasingly fast pace of life (Alexander Hafner, 2010 cited Hawkins & Klas,1997; Major, Klein, & Ehrhart, 2002: McConalogue, 1984: Teuchmann, Totterdell, & Parker, 1996: Weissberg, Berentsen, Cote, Cravey, & Heath, 1982). Proper time schedule at work allows us to meet the deadline and therefore reduces time pressure and  unnecessary stress at task.

In short, implementing good time management is able to improve psychological aspects of our life and it should keep going in consistently.

Recommendations

Time management is requiring people to invest a time upfront to prioritize and organize own self. It can be categorized as a combination of planning, time assessment, goal setting, prioritize and scheduling (Leadership.uoregon.edu, 2015).

First of all, you need to have a plan. You have to list down the things you want to achieve and set up a firm goal which are realistic, believable and achievable. Making a list is to help you stay focused and felt accomplished when crossing things (Ultius.com, 2015). You should review task list regularly to make sure that nothing should be moved up.
