PRESENTATION GUIDE: MSc International Accounting and Finance
COURSE: INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Background
You have been divided into 14 groups. The course administrator will send you your group allocation. I will not reallocate you. There are four presentation slots. For each slot the stated groups below will prepare one presentation. I will ask two of the groups to present their work. If any group fails to prepare their class presentation I will suspend class for one hour and we will not cover the material. Each group presentation should use powerpoint and should be no more than 20 minutes long.
- Slot 1: Group 1,2,3,4
- Slot 2: Group 5,6,7
- Slot 3: Group 8,9,10
- Slot 4: Group 11,12,13,14
.
Material
This pack contains material that will be helpful to you for your presentations.
- For presentation slot 1 the pack contains a sheet stating how you might prepare for the debate
For presentation slots 2, 3 and 4 it contains
- The set of questions that should be answered by each group that presents each case.
What You Must Do/Not Do
- You are expected to read the relevant cases before the class that it is presented even if you are not presenting the case yourself.
- You must prepare for your presentation slot.
- You MUST NOT speak to members who are in the rival group who are presenting at the same time.
Slot 1: Should the Chinese government float their currency or not?
Structure:
Groups 1,2 must discuss the case for China choosing to float its currency and
Groups 3,4 must discuss the case against China choosing to float its currency.
You will have 20 minutes each to put forward your side of the argument.
Presentation Method:
I want all groups to prepare power point presentations. If you want to get technical with the audience, you must explain yourselves. Please make your power point slides available for the class afterwards.
Sources:
You should use the Harvard business school case “China: to float or not to float?” You can also do an internet search for sources and articles that could be useful to you. In particular you should use sources such as the Financial Times website and the Economist website.
Presentation Slot 2: Jaguar Case
- To which currencies is Jaguar exposed?
- Build a discounted cash flow model to value Jaguar’s equity. Then estimate the likely effect of the following:
- Base Case: No change in the real exchange rate between the dollar and the pound. (PPP holds)
b. A 25 per cent drop in the real value of the dollar against the pound. (25% depreciation of dollar against the pound with no change in dollar prices or US unit volume.)
c. A 25 per cent drop in the real value of the dollar against the pound. (25% depreciation of dollar against the pound), to which Jaguar responds with a 10% increase in dollar prices thereby reducing US sales volume.
