Procedure Manual
When I open a business I will definitely need a procedure manual. This procedure manual communicates to the employees the rules, (policies), procedures and practices of the company as well as the employment relationship. This manual will also help cover me as the owner. This is done by letting the employees know what is expected at this company and will also demonstrate my good faith attempt to comply with laws and regulations. (Procedure manual, (n.d.) These are a few examples of what a procedure manual contains. First, it contains an introduction which welcomes the new employee to the company and explains the business of the company. Next it contains employment policies which explain the definitions of employee classifications, the right to change policies at any time, equal opportunity employment and discrimination and harassment/ violations of the law. There are many more to include in this section which will be discussed at a later time.
These employment policies and procedures are very important to have when you own a business. The company tries to list all policies and procedures in this manual. Otherwise without these policies and procedures the employees could do just about anything they want to do on the job and this would cause chaos. Productivity and morale would plummet. I would as the owner have a very difficult time proving wrong-doing by any employee because there are no rules to follow.
These policies and procedures explain to the employees the rules to follow while working for my company, as well as the consequences that will follow if these rules are broken. Procedure and policy manuals are to be read at hire and let the employee know up front what is expected of them.
These policies and procedures keep me, the company owner safe as well. People cannot say they had no direction
