Promoting National Unity Among Malaysia

until today,i still remember the story of the old man who asked his sons to break some sticks,individually at first,and then when they were tied together in a bundle.It was easy to break the individual sticks but not so when they were tied in a bundle.The lesson i learnt from this story is that if we are united,we will be able to withstand all kinds of threats.However, if there is disunity,external forces can easily topple us.From this anecdote,we can see that,in the same way,national unity is pivotal to the continued sucess and development of this country.While the goverment and the people have made concerted efforts to promote national unity among Malaysia,there is still much that needs to be done.

The education system is one way through which national unity can be fostered.The school is the best place for students to mingle as they spend at least half the day in school.Students,especially those in primary school,are still in their formative years and do not usually have preconceived ideas about most thingss.The Vision School concept,mooted by the goverment,is therefore an excellent idea.Although still in its infancy,the concept,has been a huge success with all quarters giving their approval.To complement this concept, teachers should also conduct classroom and extra-curricular activities that encourage unity among the different racial groups.

Besides unity through education,the goverment has promoted the 'open house' concept which is unique to Malaysia.
