PART ONE: Looking at your Favorite Work of Art

Find your favorite work of art—any work of art that interests you—and then use your newfound vocabulary to describe its form, interpret its content, and evaluate its success. Make notes below, then type it when you get home. USE ONLY YOUR OWN WORDS! DO NOT COPY LABEL INFORMATION!

DESCRIBE FORM (using categories, visual elements, design principles learned in class)

My favorite artwork was the “Bust of a Man”. The first reason I loved it is because it is from Syria. It is a sculpture of a man till his chest. The sculpture reminded me of the Syrian men.  The label of the sculpture has that this man was a trader. The sculpture does remind me of Roman Sculptures, but he does look as the middle east men as I used to live there I know how the descriptions of their faces and personalities. The Sculpture is very Representational, which can see the face of the eastern trader very well.

INTERPRET CONTENT (what do you think it all means?)

The sculpture of “Bust of a Man” is a eastern trader is Syria. The sculpture makes me remember the dignity the eastern men had. This Sculpture is strong; when I saw this sculpture I wished I would have knew this person because he looks very calm and respectful, and kind.

EVALUATE SUCCESS (is this successful? Why or why not?)

Yes, the sculpture is successful because it represents the men in the east. We all know that trader are mostly rich people, but the traders in the east can be rich and middle class people. The man looks like a normal trader man. I used to live in the Middle East, and the men with dignity would look like this sculpture. The “Bust of a Man” looks like a very serious and kind man.
