The ‘Star Trek, Voyage' movie resembles an event in our history when there were still slaves around and they were being ill treated and had no human rights. Just like in the time when there were slaves, the ‘regressives' in this show were being forced to accept a new kind of technology and to upgrade themselves. When they refused, they were prosecuted. This showed that they were given no chance to make the choice of what they wanted and were forced to accept what they were told to. If they did not accept, the result would be death.

This episode also brought up some social issues that we face in our society. While in our society, it is the people who try to change the conventional way of doing things that get prosecuted, however in contrast, in this episode , it was the people(regressives), who did not want to change that got prosecuted, which creates a little bit of irony. The captain of the ‘Star Trek' spaceship also some what carried out propaganda campaign by telling everyone in the spaceship how beneficial it was to upgrade themselves to the new technology. In our society, propaganda campaigns are also used in elections and other matters to influence the way people think.

There were conflicts faced by characters in this episode. Torres faces the dilemma of deciding if she should stay with what she believe, which was that everyone has their own rights, or go along with the society. She eventually decided to follow the crowd and go along with the society. By doing so, she was going against her conscience and she was kind of remorseful. While deciding which path to take, she got into conflicts with her father, the captain, and a ‘regressive' man, a lover in her dreams.

This episode shows us that by experiencing incidents first hand, it is extremely different from experiencing it later. When Torres experiences weird incidences with the ‘regressive' man in her dreams, she sounded more emotional, intense and
