Television Case

One television show that I watch most from a sociologist’s eyes is “Meet the Browns”. This particular show has always taught me a lot about social conflict, structural- functional, and symbolic interactionism. The main character is called Mr. Brown who is man that has low tolerance for dealing with situations head on or be challenge by any negative vibes. His motto is just keep going and if things were meant it will happen no matter what direction you take. Dealing with life situations can be a hard task but having some kind of humor in your situation can make it less complicated is what perspective Mr. Brown sees things.
This one show I like to see is when Mr. Brown had to go the doctor and get a check up to see if he was physically fit. Because of Mr. Brown’s fear of going to visit the doctor regularly because Mr. Brown was afraid of hearing bad news and made many excuses to tell his family he didn’t need to go. Mr. Brown is an elderly man in his early 60’s who should have made many trips to the office yet he procrastinated on just about everything pertaining to his life. After many attempts to get Mr. Brown to the doctor, his family rests their case on living him to answer that question. He falls asleep on the sofa in the front room watching television and has several dreams. The first dream was about his father who had passed away because of the same health conditions and neglected it until he became ill and passed away. Mr. Brown continues to refuse anyone’s help to convince him to go to the doctor’s office. The next dream he had was about some of his friends that passed away that was a little younger than he was and them too neglected their health conditions. The third dream slightly took a turn to give Mr. Brown a different perspective of refusing to see the doctor because of the fear he had of visiting the doctor.
