“The Destructors”

Literary is written by the author to challenge the readers beliefs and the way they think, and it can also explore the human brain and trigger any emotions. Commercial fiction is created to entertain the reader and give the reader the opportunity to travel to other worlds without leaving home. The author writes the story to make the readers believe in something that is impossible. “The Destructors” by Graham Greene is a typical story in how people can be so cold hearted to one another when a person brings no harm. This short story has a lot of suspense and action which is perfect because it makes the story far more interesting for the readers. Blackie, who was once the leader of the gang welcomed Trevor, a newcomer, to join his gang, not knowing that he had a bad plan. The gang agreed to Trevor’s plan, which was to destroy Mr. Thomas house. “The Destructors” is a work of literary fiction which grabs the readers attention in thinking about problems of society such as, the lack of trust people have towards each other, jealousy, and the things people do for fame.

The boys in the gang set up a plan to keep Mr. Thomas occupied from going inside his own house. Trevor tells mike to go behind the lav and hide besides it and yell for help, mean while Blackie is pressuring Mr. Thomas to help mike out of danger. “A hand first supported him and then pushed him hard. His head hit the opposite wall and he sat heavily down. A hand whipped the key out of the lock and the door slammed. “Let me out” he called, and heard the key turn in the lock.” (p.60) Poor Mr. Thomas had been tricked by some kids. The gang continued to destroy the house day and night. Mr. Thomas had a heart enough to help mike out of danger, not knowing that he was being the target. In there being no trust between the characters, shows the lack of trust in people towards each other. Now a days, no one trust anyone because they can not trust in themselves.
