The House on Mango Street Writing Assessment
The book The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros has many different vignettes based around a twelve year old girl's life. Esperanza and Alicia are similar in several ways. They both want out of Mango Street. They both want to and like to go to school. Also they both have families, but they are different because Esperanza and Alicia have some different reasons for wanting out of Mango Street. And they are sort of like going and are going to school for different reasons. Their families have different ways of living.
Both Esperanza and Alicia want to get out of Mango Street. They don't like it there. Esperanza wants out because she doesn't want to become one of the women that are trapped. She doesn't like the life there. Esperanza wants to do something with her life. Alicia wants out because she was pushed into a life she doesn't want to be in. Her mother died so she had to become the mother of the family and take care of them. Her father abuses and takes advantage of her. Alicia wants a better life, she wants to get away from her dad. They both know that there is no opportunities there.
The two girls both like to go to school, but they are going for some different reasons. Alicia is going to college for a few reasons. She wants to going so she can get an education to get a job so she can get away from her dad. She wants to get away from the life she is in. Esperanza is required to go but she also like going to. She likes to learn new things. Also Esperanza's mom wants her to get a good education so she can do something with her life when she gets older. Her mom doesn't want her to end up like she did.
