The Plot of the Story - Sammy's Attitude

1. mpact of Sammy's attitude on the narrative is wise and sarcastic. Some places in the text where Sammy interprets are when he infers that Queenie is kind of wealthy because she buys Herring Snacks which are an expensive item. The events that might be reported differently if the story were told by Stokesie would be worrying about the girls. While if told about Queenie she probably wouldn't have even studied or noticed much about Sammy as he did about her.

4. Updike does indeed succeed in making me see the scene he was describing. For example when Sammie was describing Queenie he said: "She had the sort of oaky hair that the sun and salt had bleached, done up in a bun that was unraveling, and a kind prim face." These were very great details which helped me to picture the character. Also, when Sammie was talking about the girls walking around in the store I could picture this, "Around they come, Queenie still leading the way, and holding a little grey jar in her hand. Slots three through seven are unmanned and I could see her wondering between Stokes and me, but Stokesie with his usual luck draws an old party in baggy grey pants…

5. Sammy quits his job because he feels that Lengel treated the women unfairly, he didn't like what the story represented, and he wanted to look like a hero. Furthermore, when he said he recognizes "how hard the world was going to be to me from here on in"?, He means that now he had the fear that most people who ever quit a job had. He would be left to face the fact that he now didn't had a job and also have to explain to his parents the reason for why he quit.
