The year 1991 was a scandalous year for Wisconsin, specifically in the local city of Milwaukee. Jeffrey Dahmer, convicted serial killer of 17 people in the city of Milwaukee. was getting prosecuted and in the middle of court during that time. His fate would be life in jail with no parole. In the book “The Stranger,” Meursault, the main character is walking along the beach where he meets up with the Arabs that were following him and his friend. He gets into a fight with one of them and kills him on the beach shore. The reason he claims for doing this is that the sun was in his eyes. Was this a good excuse? Or was it not enough to prove him innocent? In this paper, all of these questions will be answered. This paper will focus on the reason for murder, when the murder happens, who is involved, how it’s all related to the book, and real life situations, which include some information on the relationship between the Arabs and French in World War II.

Before the paper continues to progress, it is important to know some information about the author himself. Albert Camus was born on November 7th, 1913 in the village of Mondovi. This village is located new Constantine near Algeria. He went to school at the University of Algiers, and worked irregularly at a spare-parts salesman, and in various clerical jobs in Algiers. While working here, he suffered his first tuberculosis attack in 1930, and because of this he was forced to leave his over-crowded home. Three years later, he joined the anti-Fascist movement in Amsterdam. About a year later, he was united in marriage for the first time, and in a couple of years, it abruptly ended. Throughout the years, he wrote many books, like “The Stranger” “The Plague” and “The Fall.” He also wrote many plays throughout his life, which were based around absurdum. This was the idea that human beings exist in a purposeless, chaotic universe. He kept

writing until his death in 1960, in which he in a car accident. One thing that was noticed in his final years of being alive was that he had lost the habit of noting his feelings. He didn’t seem to give a care in the world during his final years. Just like Meursault in “The Stranger.”

The book “The Stranger” takes place in Algiers, Algeria. The main character, Meursault, learns from a telegram that his mother has just died in the care home. He doesn’t seem to care about the specific details on his mother dying. He goes and meets with the caretaker, and smokes with him along the casket of his mother. After the procession is over with the next day, he joyfully rides the bus back home, and goes to sleep. The next day, he goes on a swim and bumps into his former co-worker that he had always liked, Marie Cardona. He invites her to the movies, and after that they begin to have a romance. Meursault is a quiet individual that expresses everything in a quiet matter; (The Stranger). He meets with one of his friends named Raymond.
