Strategy

The most important consideration is the depository facility location that will often be opposed by the resident at that particular area. So, the best area for depository of nuclear waste is far away from the residential area and away from the lakes that playing an important role to provide fresh water as there is a risk of polluting the water and causes fisheries, tourism, recreation and other industrial and economic uses.

There is other strategy such as turning nuclear waste into a new generation of energy. The idea is to reprocess the used fuel – only a fraction of the energy has actually been spent- to create low-carbon electricity. With about 270,000 metric tons of nuclear waste globally, it would generate enough energy to power the world for about 60 years, even with growing energy needs, scientist estimate. The advanced nuclear technologies being explored are safer than traditional nuclear energy plants and help solve vexing concerns about storing spent waste. However there is other concern, because the reusing of waste could make it more available to enemy nations and terrorists who seek to develop nuclear weapons.

The current method which is vitrification and deposit in stable geological structures seems a reasonable approach to me. The resulting glass beads aren’t likely to be going anywhere soon.  Here is one considerable method, which is to do deep sea disposal but that is long argument as it will be costly to do research. Sometimes cheap and safe gives way to what one can persuade people of.
