Module 1 Two Paragraph Report[pic 1]
Academic Integrity Reminders:
Students must prepare each assignment specifically for this course and within the timeframe of this course, so their work will be eligible for credit. Submitting a report previously prepared for another course is a violation of the CCCOnline policy on "Academic Integrity" and will result in a Zero (0%) for the paper. The details of the policy are posted in the Read and take notes on the CCCOnline Academic Integrity Policy, the CCCOnline Academic Integrity Student Tutorial, and theCCCOnline Consequences for Plagiarism.
Overview:
Your primary goals for this report are to demonstrate your understanding of plagiarism and of specific ways to avoid plagiarism, based on the assigned Module readings about academic integrity and plagiarism, while you demonstrate your ability to write two (2) formal summary paragraphs (three or more sentences in each paragraph) about these issues (250-300 words, no more/no less). Do not quote from the sources; instead, use your own words to summarize your understanding of these important issues.
To prepare for writing this report:
- Read and take notes on the CCCOnline Academic Integrity Policy.
- Read and take notes on the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) Web tutorials about "Avoiding Plagiarism," including the additional 3 sections in the left frame at the OWL, "Overview," "Is It Plagiarism?" and "Safe Practices." Instructions:
Development
- Each paragraph should focus on one central point and identify that point in the first (topic) sentence, develop that main point with (body) sentences that provide relevant details and support, and end with a final (closing) sentence that wraps up the ideas in the paragraph.
- Use only 3rd person (she, he, it, they, them, etc.) and avoid 1st person (I, me, my, we, us, our, etc.) and 2nd person (you, your, yours).
- Use only your own words; do not quote from your sources.
- Refer to no other outside sources for this assignment.
- You do not need to cite information for this starter report, as I am aware that your ideas are based solely on the assigned sources about academic integrity and avoiding plagiarism. We will discuss how to create and use citations in our next module.
Format
- Your concise paper should be only two (2) formal paragraphs, 250-300 words (no more/no less).
- Format your report according to the MLA report format guidelines as summarized in the MLA format guidelines presented in this module and as demonstrated in the "Student Report Model Without Citations" [attached below] sample report.
- Insert an MLA-style internal report heading in the upper left corner of your first page and a descriptive report title that reflects content in your report (not the name of the assignment) centered above your first paragraph.
- If your paper is longer than one page, insert an MLA name/page header in the upper right corner of each page, ½" from top of page.
- Double-space all lines; omit extra line spacing between paragraphs, etc.
- Use a 12-point font size and one consistent standard font style, no bold.
- Use 1-inch margins on left, right, and bottom of all pages; all sides of your text; insert the name/page header ½" from the top of the page.
