In their book “Washington 101,” Mathew N. Green, Julie Yarwood, Laura Daughter and Maria Mazzenga(2014), these four professors from the Catholic University of America, they discuss around the Washington D.C. The essential purpose of this book is to educate students by presenting various aspects from the essence, such as history, politics, business, instead of misunderstanding and outdated ideas(P. 1). A significant opinion that these four professors argue is that the Washington D.C. is unique, they support this view by specifying three different features of this city. This city is deeply influenced by national politics which motivate the establishment of the white house, museums, and monuments. Meanwhile, Washington D.C. is also the national capital that is enjoying the huge benefits, such as high-paying jobs, lots of funding, but faced with strict regulation, like an overreliance on government largess. Lastly, the author mentioned slave-trading commercial city to discuss the crossroads of African American. As Green et al. (2014) said in the end, there are three different themes in the book: “symbolic city, ” “political city,” and “living city (P. 3).”
