Winning the Lottery
Good evening, Welcome to the North Carolina Educational Lottery. Tonight’s jackpot is $250 million. Tonight’s multiplier is the number five. If you match all five white balls and the power ball you win the jackpot. Good Luck everyone! The numbers tonight are: 07, 15, 19, 23,32and the power ball is 29. I hit! I hit! Now that is a statement I would love to make. What are the odds of me hitting the lottery? If I won, what would I do with the money? And would I continue playing or leave it alone? These are questions I often ask myself when I purchase my lottery tickets. It’s like hyping my-self up and hoping that the day will come when I can say: “I hit the lottery last night.” If I won the lottery, I would pay off my mortgage, student loans, take a vacation I have always dreamt about and save for the future.
Millions of Americans play the lottery each day and night. Some are fascinated with the big jackpot games, others like to play the pick three, pick four, cash five and scratch off games. I love playing them all I feel that it betters my chances of winning big. The most popular of the scratch off game that I play is the ten dollar card called “Cash Spectacular.” It has over $127million in total prizes. The object of the game is to match your numbers to any of the winning numbers to win the prize shown underneath the winning numbers. If you reveal a starburst symbol, you win $100 automatically. Reveal a money bag symbol, you will all 15 prizes. Now what would be the odds of me winning the jackpot on this card? According to the Lottery Association, the approximate overall odds of winning including breakeven prizes are: 1 in 3.30, that means the odds of me winning one of the top $1million prizes is approximately one in 1,752,000 players. As the prizes are won, so does the odds of a chance to hit the big prize.
