Achievements of the Progressives

Outline the main achievments of the prosgressives. Against what developments were the progressive reacting? What were the motives behind the groups and individuals as progressives?

A period of great change known as the Progressive Era took place in the Late 19th century, and the early 20th . The progressives were people who worked to rid America of many of it's problems. The goals of the Progressive era were to give more power back to the people, improve their rights, and create more social responsibility. Many of the social reforms, such as work week, women rights, child labor laws and wage laws were created to protect workers and ensure they worked under safe conditions.

It was not just a single movement, individualistic battle, or single idea, it's a response to were U.S. is going. The most influential groups were White Protestants; Middle Class and Native Born; College Educated Professionals; Social Workers, Scholars, Preachers, Teachers, and Writers. . Developments were made. Major groups within the Progressives were President Roosevelt, first Progressive president; Muckrakers, sensual part of Progressive Era, dirt diggers in a serve to the nation; W. Taft, and the President W. Wilson, Roosevelt's successors.

Greatest developments made in the Progressive Era were biggest success, and win for American people since the Civil War. Thing of a crucial importance was Public Health; Food and Drug Act, and the Meat inspection Act were a significant step in right way. "The Jungle" Upton Sinclair's book about meat packing industries persuaded President T. Roosevelt, and the government intervenes and changed regulations; food industry inspection was established.

In my opinion Regulation of Child labor and women as a worker in U.S. was the biggest success in Progressive Era. By 1900, women composed 20% of the manufacturing workforce, many performing double duty by working in firms for a wages and unpaid homemakers who were held responsible for the childcare, cleaning and cooking .And they were paid less than male workers, which is unfair for sure. At the same time, over 1.7 million children under age sixteen worked in factories or fields; about 20% of all boys and 10% of all girls aged 10 to 15 worked for wages. Within thirty years from 1900 to 1930 percentage of children between 10 and 15 years old employed has been drastically decreased; worrying percentage of 19 was decreased to 5 percent. Muckraker's efforts, however, were significant, and impacted the changes.

Establish of Hull House by J. Adams, and E. Gates to help the poor women brought a piece of heaven into the slums; took some "middle class values" to the slums. That aid encouraged women's movements.
