Adenauer and Post-War Germany

Morgenthau plan also known as Treasury plan was decided to punish Germany as it was involved in the World War 2.  It was proposed by the assistant treasury secretary Harry Dexter and Secretary Henry R. Morgenthau during the era of 1944. The main goal of Morgenthau plan was to halt Germany from enduring the war and to make Germany comprehend not to initiate the war again.  Morgenthau plan was harsh for the German as this plan proposed the idea to destroy the Germany economically and Germans were not allowed to build any industries forcing them to adopt the agriculture culture back. Morgenthau plan had three basic ideas i.e. it wanted Germany to be portioned into two independent states, Germany’s industries were planned to be destroyed and demolished and Germany’s mining industry was made to be internationalized. On the other side, another plan known as Marshal Plan was proposed by the George C. Marshal on June 5, 1947. The plan was formally known as European Recovery Program. The plan dispensed an ample to rebuild the Europe. The American government funded the European with approximately $13 billion as an economic provision for the rejuvenation of Europe. The marshal plan helped in re constructing the industries in the western part of the Germany and brought broad share in the region.

 The marshal plan on the whole promoted the American government too, since it established the industries for the American goods. Although the marshal plan focused on the western Germany and it specifically raised the economy of the American government, it is still deliberated as the great philanthropic effort by the American government. After witnessing the massive destruction in Germany, the government of United States and the conquerors of the Second World War decided to reverse the obliteration in the different areas of Germany. As Germany was destroyed up to no extent thus to re construct Germany the government decided to initiate the marshal plan. During the era of 1945, Europe lost its industries, it cities and its civilization. It went through the economical tragedies and it faced the commencement of the Domino Theory also known as the fall of one country after another to communism. These all circumstances enforced the George Marshal in 1945 to introduce the plan that announced the economic reconstruction in the Europe with the help of aid provided by the American government.

Keeping everything under consideration, the marshal plan had remarkable effects both in the long and the short run for the prospect of Europe. It helped in the re construction and the rehabilitation of the European economy. Discussing the short term effect, it aloof the depression from the European society by eliminating the hunger and the redundancy from the society. On the other side, discussing the long term effect of the marshal plan, it empowered the western part of the Europe to become politically and economically independent. It introduced the high level of confidence in the Europeans because of being economically stable. It has been believed that the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) came into existence due to the implementation of the marshal plan.  It is also believed that marshal plan helped the Europe a lot but as a matter of fact the reconstruction of the Europe not only transpired due to the dollars and the aid provided by the marshal plan, other organizations such as NATO, EEC  also made an effort to bring Europe back to life.
