INTRODUCTION
The existence of a human resource department is vital to the overall productivity and efficiency of the strong workforce in any thriving company. In order for a company to be established and perform well in this competitive environment nowadays, they need to have a good human resource department management. Therefore many companies start to take this department into consideration to align with the objectives of the company.
Good human resource can be one of the most valued and respected departments in an organization; their job is people, and people are the company's most important asset. In fact the existence of a company is depending on the workers. Without the workers , how would a company be able to achieve its mission and vision. To accomplish the subject requirement, our lecturer Sir Hisham has given us a task that need us to do industrial visit to expose us to the real human resource working life. Our group have decided to take question number two from the assignment which is about the challenges faced by the Human Resource Management in aviation industry. We were allowed to choose one or more aviation company to conduct the industry survey. After a few discussion, we agreed to interview these two companies ; Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn.Bhd ( CTRM ) and Malaysia Airlines ( MAS ).
We have interviewed Mr. Kamarudzman Kasby, the Assistant General Manager for CTRM and Mr. Ahmad Syukri Abdullah as the Human Resource Services Manager for MAS. CTRM which is lead by YBhg Datuk Wira Syed Ali Tan Sri Syed Abbas Alhanshee consist of five subsidiaries which are CTRM composite, CTRM aviation, CTRM Composite Engineering, unmanned system, CTRM System Integration and each subsidiaries have their own strategies. The HR services department lead by Mr. Syukri is supervised by Mrs. Raja Azura, the head of human resource division for MAS. According to the annual report of MAS in the year of 2010, there are about 19,000 MAS staffs worldwide. Therefore MAS has divided the human resource department into several sections such as Performance Management, Talent Management and also Training Resources to handle the massive number of staffs efficiently.
CHALLENGES
Based on the interviews that have been conducted, we noticed a few challenges faced by these two well known companies. Challenge is a normal phenomenon that involves a new or difficult task that tests somebody's or organization's ability and skill. It gets even tougher for aviation companies like CTRM and MAS. Every human resource department will have their own challenges either internally or externally. It is very important for the department to be alert with any conflicts that occur within their surrounding working place and take immediate action to overcome it.
