Terry fox had immense determination in making a difference in the Canadian identity. When Terry first got diagnose with cancer in 1976 after being in a car crash, he wanted to make the change, raise awareness and find a cure. He was a fighter, and was just different than the rest. He started training for marathons 3 years later in 1979, and 6 months later he was running 16 kilometers a day. Terry was brave and didn’t let anything get in his way. The Prince George Marathon really opened his eyes. “It took cancer to realize that being self centered is not the way to live. The answer is to try and help others.” Terry said. After that marathon he had a big “dream” some say. He told his mother he was going to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. His mum didn't like that Idea at all she thought it was too risky for his health. She didn’t want him to run at all but she tried to convince Terry just to run through British Columbia. Terry had his mind set on this goal; there was no convincing he was determined to run Canada coast to coast. After 101 days of training and only one day of break he had ran a total of 5 000 kilometers before leaving for Newfoundland. By April 12, 1980 Terry had started his dream in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Terry has inspired many and has really effected people, not just in Canada but all over the world.
