Exploratory Paper on Political Ideology
Having been a History student, I came across many policies and doings of past political greats. These political greats, though seemingly similar in their intentions (hungry for wealth, power and fame), are actually very different from within. I believe that the many differences between the political greats can all be summed into one word – Ideology. An ideology can be defined as a set of ideas that forms the goals, expectations, and actions of an individual. Often times, the purpose of an ideology is to bring about change. It can be either change in society, or adherence to a set of ideals that consists conformity. Hence, it is always ‘ideology’ that accounts for the many political reforms and revolutions. It intrigues me how these political greats can easily attract people to buy into their ideologies. This is especially so when some of these ideologies involve extreme violence and cruelty. Hence, I have immense interest to explore on this issue about political ideologies and how it has direct impact on the world that I live in.
Political ideologies construct the minds of politicians on how they think the society should function or be organized. This will eventually determine the type of policies the politicians come up with. Hence, it is important for people to not be apathetic about political ideologies, as they have a choice on which type of ideology they support. There is a need for all of us to understand and be more aware about the different types of political ideologies because they eventually shape the environment we live in and economy we work in. For instance, one type of political ideology may trigger the government to increase tax while another might cause the government to reduce tax. Hence, we need to know what each political ideology speaks of and what it has to offer so that we, as citizens, know where to cast our support on.
