Introduction

According to Gartner's recently released report mobile applications and applications for media tablets is on the list of technologies that is going to continue to grow and develop rapidly, eventually replacing some or most of the functions that users are currently accustomed to perform using computers. [1] Gartner also predicts based on current figures that customer expectations are going to shift towards the prospect of availability of huge number of services being available to access and utilise using mobile devices and media tablets as well as the ability of companies to deliver those expectant services into mobile world.

Having witnessed the development and growth of mobile technology the majority of the current population would most certainly agree with Gartner's prediction, however before making any conclusions we must take into consideration all aspects associated with mobilising the business models and answer a number of questions in the areas of security, return on investment, benefits, reliability and scalability of the solutions.

In this research material we will attempt to provide justification for Gartner's predictions and advantages and disadvantages associated with taking such direction both from business and technological stand point.

Overview

Advances in technological development over the past 4 decades created new opportunities, new ways to conduct business. They also increased the number of different communication channels to share the information and widened the intended audience. Technological development and growth has encouraged businesses to consider and make IT integral core part of their business models. Most if not all of the operations in majority of the companies is conducted by means of technology.

Mobile Applications

In the world today having the ability to stay connected with everyday life anywhere you go is a new commodity is which most are not a costume. "Wireless technology makes location irrelevant, increasing opportunities for businesses through mobile computing and commerce" (Volonino, 2011). Having the option or ability to be able to check your email, invoice bank accounts, follow social networking, and even check school assignments. The purpose of this paper is to go into detail on one of these types of mobile application; the Bank of America mobile application.

Some think in order to take advantage of these types of application, you will have to own high end computer gadgets or need an IT degree in order to be able to use or understand them. In reality all you need is a smartphone or tablet. "One of the most useful features of a smartphone or tablet is the ability to run mobile apps.
