Giorgio Armani

Italian executive Giorgio Armani is an iconic clothing designer best known in America for his popular men's suits. He is recognized as one of the most influential and iconic designers on the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. He has been universally credited with both radically changing the rules of contemporary fashion and creating a timeless vision of modern dress. Since the early eighties Armani had been recognized as one of the most successful and well-selling designers in global fashion industry.

Armani was born on July 11, 1934, in Italy, Armani is an iconic clothing designer who has expanded his empire to hotels and restaurants.

Giorgio Armani has become one of the most popular names in fashion. He launched his first business empire in the mid 1970's in which has grown substantially over the years

Giorgio Armani grew up in a small town outside of Milan, Italy. He has two siblings - older brother Sergio and younger sister Rosanna. Some of his friends were killed during allied bombings. He had stated to Harper's Bazzar that the cinema in Milan was a refuge - a palace of dreams- and the movie starts seemed so glamourous. I fell in love with the idealized beauty of Hollywood stars."

Giorgio Armani dropped out of University, where he studied in medicine. And went to work at La Rinascente (a famous Milan department store). Later he joined the staff at Nino Cerruti as a designer. His friend Sergio Galeotti gave him a lot of encouragement to do some freelance work for other companies, such as Gibo, Montedoro, and Sicons. At a runway show at the Sala Bionca in the Pitti Palace in Florence, Armani stood out with a collection for Tendresse, in Bauhaus style, with sundresses and shirtwaists with clean lines in white and blue. His signature item is the jacket: he reinvented the most classical of men's garments for women. He dismounted and recreated the piece all by eliminating the padding, moving the buttons and modifying the epaulets.

Giorgio Armani later became Giorgio Armani in July of 1975. His company's first collection was men's clothing line which debuted that same year. The following year he launched a women's collection. At the time his clothes were revolutionary. Elegant, masculine and insignificant are the most commonly used words to describe Armani’s style. All his cuts are simple. Clean and as straight as possible. It keeps perfect balance between dignity and sex, dress and power.

Following success in menswear, Armani started designing chicly women’s wear in 1976. Since that time, the face of women’s fashion was changed by Armani again. In the middle of the 70’s women began to share the job with men and asserted themselves in office, so the need of suitable and graceful working-clothes was pressing. Fashion begins and ends with the consumer. Armani knew it clearly and exerted himself to satisfy customer’s need. He went in for designing what business women want. As a fashion master, Armani has created a significant number of design classics, such as pantsuits for women, unconstructed suit, ethnic style and casual luxury. But if we have to select one as his representative work, his jacket is the inevitable choice. It’s known that Armani is dubbed the king of jackets, not because he the first to design it, but also he is devoted to update it and make it iconic. For Armani, one jacket was the start point of his career and changed both the streetscape and the history of fashion.
