Health is the most important value for human being. Nowadays most of the countries are spending lots of money for healthcare industry. For example, according to CBO of USA last 30 years expenditure for healthcare has grown 2% faster than other industries. In this assignment two big healthcare companies of USA and UK analyzed. From company background to conclusion there are 7 important parts. Strategy of companies defined and compared in order to identify the weaknesses of approaches. Analysis is done in terms of value, mission, vision, goals, objectives, and approaches. Also discussed issues raised in two companies regarded to goods and services they are providing. Furthermore, by outcome of the analysis future performance is predicted for each company. Annual reports and publications are used in this work in order to define performance management strategies of Biogen Idec and NHS Shetland. Two main models of performance management strategy have been taken in this assignment. They are management by objectives and a model based on scorecard. Business strategy and performance management strategy are given in order to make a clear view of organizations’ overall strategy. Table is drawn where shown all important details in a comparison form. Weaknesses of approaches are analyzed and defined. At the end of the assignment conclusion is given.

Company background

NHS Shetland or UK National Health Service is established in 1948 to provide healthcare services for all UK population. Gilbert Bain Hospital provides local hospital services and community services as well. In addition, visiting consultants from NHS Grampian provide out-patient clinics as well as in-patient and day-case surgery to supplement the service provided by locally-based Consultants in General Medicine, General Surgery, Anaesthetics and Psychiatry.
