The movie entitled “Mumbaki” , foretold the story of a young educated man in a character of a doctor named as Joseph. It was played by the actor Raymart Santiago who looks back his life’s origin when he came to bury his father, an Ifugao chieftain killed during a tribal dispute. For many days of staying in the tribe’s community, he found himself being alienated with the tribes culture as he grows in the city and live with the people in modern living. As days went on, he became informed with some of the tribes custom,culture and belief as well as the several problems faced by the tribe. Even though there is a good opportunity for him to go to the other country to practice medicine, the young doctor then able to discover his rich heritage, choose to stay with the tribe where in the time faces problems of civil war, pneumonia epidemic,as well as the problem of being ignorance of the tribesmen to take modern medicine.

The story shows the diversity of the Filipino culture. Even a single tribe possesses their own way of life and culture despite the fact that they are minimal in numbers. It also shows the complexity of primitive and modern living that showcases the problems of our native who still suffer from ignorance because of being under educated. The movie also shows the real situation in our highlands wherein the government are lacking in their penetration of service. Never the less it showcase the individuals love of country and dedication towards his country man.

All in all, the movie “Mumbaki” tells us one of the social problem in our society; the unequal distribution of wealth, privileges and service to the people and discrimination and prejudice, where in some cases, due to the ignorance of other people, because of their deprivation from education.

As a future educator, I see the need for these people to acquire proper education which might be their arm towards their social struggle for the benefits of their survival in this
