What do the Olympic rings represent?
The Olympic rings signify the 5 continents of the world, which are Africa, America, Asia, Australia and Europe. The colours of the rings stand for a colour that’s in each flag of a country that competes in the Olympics.
How is the Ancient Olympics different to todays (2012) Olympics?
Well first of all in the ancient Olympics only men were allowed to compete in the games, this was considered fair as the Greeks thought that women were not strong enough. But in todays Olympics, women and men can participate in the games.
The Greek Olympic games
The Olympic games started over 2,700 years ago, in the city of Greece Olympia. The games were part of a religious festival, in honour to Zeus and other Greeks Gods. People from all over the world came to watch and take part in the games.
How do they decide which country the Olympics is held in?
The Olympic committee discusses which countries have the best qualities, and of course they need to make sure they choose a country that has a fair bit of many. So in this case, for the 2020 Olympics it wouldn’t be a good idea for Greece to host the Olympics as they are in a lot of debt, so they wouldn’t be able to build a stadium for the Olympics.
What does the Olympic Torch symbolize?
The torch is to symbol how brave participants in the Olympics are, and that they may light their way to try there best, and make their country proud.
