Pirre Bellon launches Sodexho in Marseille, 1966. Before that Sodexho already have more than 60 years experience in catering. Their operations initially serve staff restaurants, schools and hospitals. 1971–1978, Sodexho tried to expansion their size to International with first contract with Remote Site Management business, first in Africa, then the Middle East. After success they also start to give Voucher Service.
Sodexho shares initial to public in Paris Stock Exchange, 1983. And then, in 1985-1993 Sodexho establishes activities in the Americas, Japan, South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia and Russia, and reinforce its presence in the rest of Center Europe. 1989, Sodexho arrive in Malaysia as Gardner Merchant. They bought over Acquisition of Kafeteen (M) Sdn. Bhd. on 18th March 1990.
Since 1995 Sodexho become the world market leader in food service and in that year Sodexho joins with Gardner Merchant, the UK's number 1 contract food services. And in year 1999, Gardner Merchant Food Services Malaysia is changed to Sodexho Food and Management Services (M) Sdn. Bhd. on the 20th April.
Jean Christophe Coubat is appointed ad the new Managing Director of Sodexho Malaysia on the 1st April 2000 and then Lawrence Low, Managing Director of Singapore, is appointed as the new Managing Director of Sodexho Malaysia on the 1st September, so he responsible for both countries. Now Sodexho not only provide Food Services but they also provide Management Services. Management services is mean like People services (e.g. vending and cleaning), Building services (e.g. administration, facilities management, maintenance, landscaping) and Business services (e.g. reception service/ switchboard operator).
