Roman Culture
Roman culture still reflects in modern society structure, and can be shown in Rome’s monuments left behind. From these ruins we can see that Rome was ahead of its time in technology. Coinciding with technology is the beauty and ingenuity of the Roman Architecture, which left marvel buildings some of which held events for the people of Rome. From the ancient blueprints of Rome we can tell that the culture of Rome was boldly innovative, had luxurious standard for their time, and followed many of the same social structures as we do.
Ancient Rome consists of many impressive feats that stand today as notable monuments. One of the most luxurious characteristics of this ancient civilization is its running water from Aqueducts. The arches of the Aqueducts were innovated to save money in building materials. Aqueducts carried water into the city from around 260 miles away. This system was built up to 180 feet to compensate for valleys in the way of a straight path. This structure was built without cranes or heavy machinery like we have; but with very smart ancient architects and many workers. It was so well built that it is still used today in carrying water to the city crafted the Aqueducts. This sample of Rome’s technology shows how Romans would go to such extremes to build such massive structures in search of an answer to being land locked; Also, to create a major luxury for the wealthier class.
Rome had created other structures, now monuments, which seemed impossible to create in such a primitive time. A huge part of Rome culture was its road system. Romans knew that building the road as straight as possible saves time and money. These roads weren’t just matted down dirty, they we multi- layered and topped with stone. Even with deep structure the Romans were gruesomely hard working and pushed to make 1 mile of road in 3 days. The main road through Rome was the Appian Way and is still there in use today. This road and others that went throughout the empire were important for transportation and trade. The roads were efficient at moving troops quickly throughout the land. On the other hand, shops and everyday people used it to get them selves or goods from place to place. This advantage to transport items easily changed the culture into commercial market place with a diversity of goods from different places could be sold in the forums. This bold idea to take pave over paths was one of Rome’s great creations; and doing so gave more freedom to move around and connect with people quicker and easier for the pleasure of the people and the armies.
